Holy crap it’s so much prettier after a good scrubbing with Murphy’s Oil Soap, followed by a rubdown with tung oil. (Tung is what the makers of the wheel would have used to condition the wood.) Here are pictures, with a “before” shot to show the difference. It’s like a whole different wheel.





Isn’t the difference impressive? It’s also obvious that the treadle is made of an entirely different wood, and is probably a replacement for the original.
(I cleaned the bobbin, but did not oil it. Figured that would be a bad idea.)
By this time tomorrow, the wheel will be ready for me to reattach the footman, add a drive band, and see how she spins. I’m so excited!
