Note: this is not an advertisement for anything. Just me talking about stuff I like.

I really like wax melts, and have two inexpensive melters I bought years ago (one for the living room, one for my bedroom). At some point around 2021, I had gotten some perfume oils, and found out I could use them in my melter.

This is the melter I have (Amazon link). I also discovered these reusable (but disposable) silicon cups (Amazon link) to put in the melter, to make cleanup easy. I was already using those, but they’re great to have for oil scents too.

My favorite perfume oils are Euphoria and Atlier, both from Strange Fire & Fumery. You can use oils from anywhere, though. (And you want oils, not alcohol-based perfumes).

Put some jojoba oil in the melter cup to use as a carrier oil. It’s cheap stuff, sold for hair and skin care. I use a kind that comes in a pump, and two pumps (maybe a tablespoon total) is perfect.

Add a few drops of perfume oil. How much depends on the strength of the perfume, and how big the room is. For my living room (a standard size apartment living/dining combo) I’ll use 4 drops of the Strange oils. My bedroom is smaller, and I’ll use 2 drops.

You don’t need to stir it or anything. Just turn the melter on and enjoy the results. I can usually smell the perfume from across the living room in about 20 minutes. How long the scents last depends on the perfume strength. The Strange ones last 1-2 days (turning the melter off in the evening at bedtime). You can always refresh the scent by adding another drop or two. (No need for more jojoba.)

When a scent is gone from the melter cup, I’ll give the cup a quick rinse under the tap, dry it with a paper towel, and replace it with something else.

If anyone has a good source for quality melts, I’d love suggestions. My favorite shop, Girlfriends Candle Co., went out of business a few years ago. I enjoy using perfume oils, but I like having a bunch of different scents available for me to choose from.

Note: if you have cats like me (or other pets), check ingredients before you use an oil or melt. My cats have never once tried to touch or taste the contents of a wax melt, but I’ve been told (although I haven’t researched it myself) that some essential oils (and thus perfume oils, I’d imagine) can be toxic for cats to even breathe in (like lavender). If you try a new scent of any kind and your animals start wheezing or vomiting, get them to emergency care immediately and take the container of the scent with you.

Perfume oils can be a great addition to you household scents, especially if you like scents from a company that doesn’t make melts. (For example, Strange F&F make room sprays, but I don’t want the spray landing on anything, so I don’t use them.) I have a couple new scents on the way from Strange…
